The History Museum (Prince’s Hall, 15th century)

The museum was founded in 1943 and inaugurated in 1951 at the initiative of Augustin Ratiu, professor I. Tigarea and archeologist I. Rusu. The museum contains archeological artifacts discovered in the area (vases, arms, roman objects, coins). In the period in which the museum functioned the materials were displayed according to historical period. Near the museum you can find the busts of Decebal and Traian and Roman stone sarcophaguses.

The museum is found in the former palace of the Bathory family, constructed in 1560. The building features elements of the gothic style from the end of the 15th century. The building has 2 floors which are approximately square. On the north side of the building is a one-storey annex.

Destined to be a trade post for the salt mined in Turda, the building also served as a temporary residence for the princes of Transylvania while visiting the area. The building also housed the participants of the Diet of Transylvania.
